The highest percentage of home robberies takes place inside of the garage. A broken garage door is like a big welcome sign that invites burglars to rob your home. It is very important to make sure that your garage door is in good shape and free of security glitches. If there are any problems with your garage door, it is best to fix them as soon as possible. At Raynor Garage Doors of Kansas City, we care about your safety, so we have created a list of the most common garage door problems and solutions.

1. Your Garage Door is Stuck Open

If your garage door is stuck open, you need to make sure something is not obstructing the closing mechanism.  Have an automatic door with a safety sensor? Check to see if there is an object in your driveway that’s telling the door to stay open. If there is nothing there, try cleaning the mechanism to make certain it is not clogged with debris.

2. Your Remote-Operated Garage Door Won’t Open

Garage Door

This is the most common garage door issue. In 80 percent of these instances, the major cause is the battery. If this is the case, you can just replace the old batteries with new ones and the issue should resolve itself. However, sometimes, the problem might be with your keypad programming. Check your keypad to make sure it’s working. If it is not, the keypad may need to be reprogrammed. There could be worn wires in the unit and your opener might have to be replaced. The problem may also be because you are too far from the operator. Check the range capacity of your door opener, so that the signals can be received properly.

3. Your Garage Door Makes a Screeching Sound

Typically, a screeching garage door is caused by old, rusty garage door springs and rollers. This is a pretty normal issue. A simple solution for this problem is a can of lubricant. The lubricant can be applied to your garage door springs, wheels, main hinges, and screws, too. Doing so will help loosen any tension.

4. Your Garage Door is Jammed

A jammed garage door can become a serious problem, because it either keeps you locked in or shuts you out of your garage. This issue can result from a broken cable, bent track, or a worn extension spring cable pulley. In the event that you have a broken cable, try replacing it. If it is the track, adjust it or get a replacement. And if everything else looks alright, the pulley element may need to be repaired or replaced.

5. Your Garage Door Closes Partially and Then Reopens

It can be very frustrating if your garage door partially closes and then reopens. Most times, this issue is the result of a broken cable or a misaligned close force. If that is the case, the cables can easily be replaced and the close force can be readjusted.

These issues can be very irritating and compromise your home security, too. Raynor Garage Doors of Kansas City cares about your well-being. If you are having any garage door problems, we are here to help. For information about our services, call us at (913) 766-2366 today.
